Foreign visitors per canton during four months in 2017, 2018

This dataset shows how many users with foreign SIM cards visited/travelled through which Swiss cantons and connected to the Swisscom mobile network while doing so. The time periods shown are September and December 2017 and March and July 2018. The values are percentages and the temporal resolution is 1 day. Assumption: ‘visited’ means that the person spent at least 30 minutes at a single location in this canton. Two percentage values are given per canton and day.

1) Visits to canton xy (in %): this figure shows the percentage value for how often a particular canton was ‘visited’ on this day. A user may have visited more than one canton. 100% here corresponds to all unique foreign roamers in the Swisscom network who spent at least 30 minutes at a particular location on this day (each SIM is only counted once).

2) Canton xy (in %): percentage distribution of ‘visits’ to this canton, compared to the total number of foreign users in Switzerland on this day. 100% here corresponds to all unique foreign roamers in the Swisscom network on this day, regardless of whether they visited a location or only travelled through it (each SIM is only counted once).

Example: on 1 September 2017, 8.5% of all users with a foreign SIM card who ‘visited’ a canton ‘visited’ the canton of Bern.
On 1 September 2017, 6.2% of all users with a foreign SIM card who were located in Switzerland on this day ‘visited’ the canton of Bern
